Aid Station along the beach at Hawaii Kai; "Have you had your Coke today?"

17 miles, walkers become prominent; the heat and humidity takes it toll.

Green Scene

Approaching Kuliouou after Hawaii Kai.

Subject under surveillance approaching...

Suddenly this strange woman blocks my progess, orders me
to
"STOP! FBI!"

"Who are you? Where are you from?" -
obviously on carbo to glucose conversion.
Before I could bring my camera up and aim in reprisal, "OUCH! MY EYES!
BLINDING MEGAWATT FLASH!!!

Thar he goes.... I wonder if he knew it was me, Michelle!
... "Go Uncle Rod! You only got LONG more
miles to go!!!!! Ha! Ha! Ha!... Now were did I leave that kid?

"Anybody see my Mom?" - abandoned baby found on street corner.

18 mile mark, only 8 more to go!

We pass Holy Trnity Church closeing on 19 miles as poor sould
art still going the other way
towards Hawaii Kai.

Another high school cheerleader group at the 19 mile mark.

This banner appears throughout this hot weather race, reminding all to drink at aid stations to avoid dehydration.

30K as we approach Hawaii Loa Ridge; properties go for $1.5 million and up in 2005.

Park fronting Hawaii Loa Ridge

Back on Kalanianole Highway, we hit the landmark 20 mile mark across Aina Haina Shopping Center.

21 miles is across the soccer field right before Kalani High
School; the highway at this point
is long, hot, humid, and "inbetween" major points on the course of
Hawaii Kai and Kahala.
I cramped right after this area.

World class Kahala golf course greets those who make it back to Kahala. At this point we turn left (see houses behind course on upper right corner) and head towards world famous Kahala Avenue with all it's mansions - and hidden beach fronts.

"You can do it!"

Rock and Roll at 22 miles to get the juices pumping again.
