A Tourist's Delight
I enjoyed traveling to and from Honolulu to be a part of the inaugural
Minneapolis Marathon of 2009. Accommodations at the Depot were fantastic,
especially since I'm a Lionel toy train collector! The food was superb in its
restaurant. Since the race packet pickup and the Start of the full marathon was
at the Depot, I booked lodging there. I enjoyed the race course, taking over 100
photos for my marathoncoursephotos.com web site. I was disappointed in Sunday's
14 degree spike to 84F, which contributed to my leg cramps at 22 miles. The most
memorable discovery on the course for this old Hawaiian (63) was coming upon Ft.
Snelling in all its ageless majesty. I am spending time online now brushing up
on this part of our American heritage. As an artist I shall be doing a painting
of the fort to commemorate my visit to your city. My MAHALO (thanks) to the
organizers of the race and all my ALOHA to the many volunteers who provided aid
and cheered us runners on to the Finish Line! PS: Ol' Miss looked so grand; wish
the race route went pass the Metrodome cuz I'm a Viking fan, being the dentist
back in Honolulu for the Nogas!
