I run hundreds of miles
to provide runners a glimpse of great scenery and landmarks of
some of the world's running marathons as I look for art in
the running. I search courses to
render one or more paintings from scenery along the race course. For
runners, my photo-
documentation of courses provide information on course terrain, crowd support,
landmarks,
and weather possibilities for the annual races. I also try to capture the
spirit of the event.

Hi. I am a marathon maniac known as the medal guy. Are you a maniac? I couldn't find you, but you advertise them. I just wrote an article for Marathon and Beyond. Due out May/June issue. I think I will send your page to them as you are quite good and they may like your art work. I know I do. Your pics are amazing!!!! Drop me a quick line if you could. See you on the road, Paul - Feb. 2010

Dr. Chang, I am certain that Indianapolis will not be too hot on November 8. The Minneapolis photos were excellent. If I ever entered the Minneapolis Marathon I feel I would know what to expect. I had the opportunity to run the San Diego Rock 'n' Roll Marathon on May 31, 2009. The course seemed very familiar because I had seen your photos before running it. Chicago would be a great course to photograph. I have entered Chicago four times and I am always impressed by the number of spectators lining the course. The buildings and the neighborhoods are interesting too. Sincerely, D. Dudek Summer, 2009
It was with great pleasure that I reviewed the photos of the BIIM course that you have shared with the world. Thank you! In self interest, I am wondering if you could e-mail me photo #15 (counting from beginning photo that is posted) that was taken at the start----I am dead center, #954 in the white shirt and it is the only photo I have of me in the event! I neglected to take my camera that day thinking that there would be photos of all finishers, but alas, I missed being photoed crossing the finish line. Next best is that I would be able to get a photo e-mailed of me at the start. I would greatly appreciate it if you could e-mail this photo to me. Thank you very much, F.H., New Mexico 5/12/2010

Wow -- this is incredible! You have done an amazing job -- do you do this for all the marathons that you run? It's like a great present! And I really appreciate your opinion that we are the No. 1 Scenic Country Road Marathon -- I'll pass it on to the Course Director who worked very hard on finding a course that people from many parts of the country and the world will appreciate.
Thank you so much for running the Missoula Marathon. Jen Jennifer Straughan Race Director Missoula Marathon PO Box 7965 Missoula, MT 59807 jen@runwildmissoula.org

From MarathonGuide.com - about our sport:
There were nearly 468,000 marathon finishes in the USA in 2009 - an increase of approximately 9.9% over 2008. That's the largest year-to-year growth in finisher numbers since MarathonGuide.com began keeping industry records in 2000 and surpasses even the year-to-year growth seen in the abnormal year of 2001 to 2002 when travel and finisher numbers were down in 2001 after 9/11, leading to the unrealistic growth percentage in 2002. As has been the trend, women continued to make up a higher percentage of the total finishers, reaching a record 40.5% of finishers in 2009. We're finishing up our reports and will have the full report before the end of January.
The first decade of the new millennium saw marathoning changed forever, as professional athletes ran faster than their predecessors had ever imagined. On the men's side, the 2:06 barrier that was broken just once before 2000, was surpassed 24 times, while the world record was pushed below the seeming impossible barrier of 2:04. After a drought in the 90s through 2000, American distance runners emerged as formidable competitors, earning medals at the Olympics and other high profile international races. The 21st Century was also a new era for the female marathoner with record numbers drawing to the sport; and a new female marathon world record from Paula Radcliffe (2:15:25) in a time that may never be beaten.
